‘Life Without Limits’ motivated a passion to perform by Kimberley Morrison | Sep 22, 2012
Season One -past in a flash yet so much to reflect on… Inspiring stories from London 2012 – The Ellie Moment, What’s yours?
A holiday read ‘Life Without Limits’ motivated a passion to perform in Triathlon.
Justine, my teammate from Loughborough Hockey was my first port of call… An ambitious girl who was already taking on the challenge of Triathlon!
On the 10th June it was an early start, 5am. 100 mile journey to my first start line… The finish line came quickly and before 10am it was a McDonald’s treat. Later that evening it was confirmed, 1st Female over the line! I could believe it and wanted to keep believing…
Corby Super Sprint Triathlon
Bedford, Henley, North Norfolk – all great races with a couple of trophies and vouchers. Thank you Wiggle and TriHarder
Typical training week = 2x hockey training/ 1x hockey match/ 3x cycle2work
‘But the tigers come at night… With their voices soft as thunder’
To finish off the season I headed to The Excel for the Virgin London Triathlon in aid of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital – where I spent my younger years. The weeks leading up to the race saw me commuting on the tube with my head deep in 220 Triathlon, at this point I realised some attention to my swim was needed. Therefore once a week on a Monday evening I would head to Hyde Park to swim in the Lido. My first experience saw an eroded neck… Nina McArthur thank you for your advice with that, Lube is a must in my growing kit bag. I had one goal at London = finish sub 2 hours 30 minutes.
‘As they tear your hopes apart… As they tear your dreams to shame…’
A goal when I was 18 years old – Run the London Marathon sub 4 hours. I was way off recording a time of 4hours24minutes!
‘I had a dream my life would be…’
However The Triathlon was different, this time I knew I would achieve my goal finishing in a time of 2 hours 29 minutes, 4th age-group, 19th female.
Virgin London Triathlon
It was the weeks after the London Triathlon when the hockey was taking a hold, I was playing just shy of National League Hockey and met some great girls. In the back of my mind Triathlon was going to suffer so I did something about it. Team Dillon was where I wanted to be and Michelle recommended a coach that would push me to achieve my dreams…
TeamDillon Christmas Party 2012
5 months into training and yes it’s been tough, a 4 hour training week has turned into 18 hours, I Love It! I train whenever I am not sat in the office, 6am or 5am what’s the difference? It can feel like:
Ax + By + C = 5
Dy + Fx = 0
Impossible – ask James Arthur… But hey that’s what my Mathematics degree was for right?
My mentality at work = It is the inches that create the miles of success. I believe this is the key to achieving that GB Vest for the Triathlon World Championships in London 2013!
I am not alone in this Journey… and I thank my best friend for making it all possible x
